Special Interest Groups (SIGs)
Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are informal discussion groups that meet on a regular basis either in person or virtually to discuss topics in a specific area of interest. These groups are a forum to share innovative ideas, experiences, and network with colleagues. They are a great way to learn from one another’s expertise and keep up to date on the latest trends in your field of interest.
Participation in SIG events and meetings is a member benefit and one of the many ways we bring more value to your ASTD Maryland membership. Non-members are invited to attend 2 complimentary SIG meetings. After that, we invite you to join the chapter to enjoy unlimited SIG meetings AND a reduced rate at our monthly programs.
We currently have two active SIGs - Consultant SIG and Leadership SIG. If you have an idea for a SIG or are interested in leading a SIG, contact our Professional Development Director.
Consultant SIG
Our Consultant SIG has been active for almost three years. It’s a group of independent consultants and individuals who do external consulting in training and development. The group provides opportunities to network, share best practices, and learn about the business and marketing aspects of consulting. The group meets at various locations at 9 am on the second Friday of every month. For additional information, contact the SIG leader, Chris Hipple, at hipple@avilar.com.
Leadership SIG
Our Leadership SIG is just getting started. This goal of the group is to empower our members with leadership expertise, implemented within a collaborative community. Some of the upcoming topics for discussion may include:
- Using focused, short communication to lead via social media
- Confidence - the primary leadership tool for yourself and others
- The intersection of marketing and leadership
- Leadership Thinking 101 - for managers and technical experts
This SIG will be led by Nathan Eckel and will meet virtually on the first Thursday of each month from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM. For additional information or questions about this SIG, contact our Professional Development Director.
If you missed one of the Leadership SIG meetings, we have recorded each session. To get the links to the recordings (available to members only), visit our Leadership SIG page (available to members only).
